Watercolor Daisy in Class Today

The 30 paintings in 30 days challenge is over.
It was a challenge. I do paint almost everyday
but I don't always get something finished.
Oh well, moving on...
I have a couple of new watercolor students
and that keeps me on my toes.
One student has painted on her own for
several years and the other has lost the use
of her right hand and is learning to paint
with her left hand. They are both amazing.
Hopefully, soon, they will let me post pictures
of the paintings they did today. But until then,
here is what we did.
I painted this one first so they would have an example.

And then I showed them that if
they weren't happy with their painting
to outline with a fine tipped marker

Or add some splatters!

What do you think?

Day 29 - 30 in 30 Days - Don't Eat the Pansies

Don't Eat the Pansies
5"X7" watercolor on Arches paper

I was enjoying photographing my little
vintage silver creamer filled purple pansies...
And then Kitty No decided to investigate
and nibble the petals. She really wanted
to shred the blossoms
She is named Kitty No for a good reason!

Day 20 - 30 in 30 Days - Umbrellas

Umbrellas
5"X7" watercolor on Arches paper

Ahhh! Rain at the retreat! And we had to be out in it several times.
There were umbrellas everywhere! All, colors, all sizes, all different!
I thought about the umbrellas and the ladies that were at the
retreat. Some were closed up tight, some were pretty
complicated to open, but once opened were beautiful.
Some were small and had room for only one under the canopy,
some had room for two,and some room for 4 or 5!
Some were dark, some were colorful,
and some had bright happy designs.
Some were wide open, curved top to the sky, protecting those
who sought shelter beneath. But, at the end of the day my
favorite one and the one that almost shouted to me
was the bright blue one with it's handle toward the sky,
with raindrops gathering inside the umbrella.
The ribs looked like hands lifted in praise to me.
By the end of our 72 hour retreat,
most of us looked like that umbrella, our hearts filled
with His love and our hearts and hands lifted in praise.

Day 19 - 30 in 30 Days - Looks Can Be Deceiving

Looks Can Be Deceiving

5"X7" watercolor on Arches paper

All packed and ready for a weekend away
at a women's retreat.
I grabbed a few minutes this morning to
paint this strawberry. It was a beautiful, yummy,
 and delicious looking strawberry!
BUT Looks Can  Be Deceiving!!!
I can feel it in the back of my jaws
just typing about it. Not sweet or delicious.

Day 18 - 30 in 30 Days - Love Reaching

Love Reaching
5"X7" watercolor on Arches paper

I have painted San Miguel several times. So simple. So strong.
It is the oldest mission in the USA and it is in Santa Fe.
There is a tree in the courtyard but I decided to add a few more branches.
Some are reaching toward heaven,
some are are reaching out and
some are reaching down.
The oldest mission should be our mission,
my mission - Love Reaching!

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Day 15 - 30 in 30 Days - Dragonfly Fly

Dragonfly Fly
6"X9" Mixed Media on Arches paper

I like this better now. It is more purple than
the photo shows. Shades of purples, blues and greens.
Here's what I did. I have some paper towels
that I have saved from my silk dying projects.
They have some beautiful mingled colors.

I used a plastic doily for the wing design. I sprayed
acrylic on  the back (it's flat) and used it like a stamp.

I used Collage Podge to adhere the torn pieces of paper towel
and a permanent marker for the wing outlines.

Little touches of Golden brand interference
iridescent paint on the wings and body.
I wish you could see the soft shimmer.

I stenciled "FLY" and added highlights
and shadows with oil pastels. Doodles around the edges.
All done.

Day 14 - 30 in 30 Days - Dragonfly Disaster

Dragonfly Disaster

5"X7" watercolor on Arches paper

It was late last night when I finally was able to
get into my studio. I tried some more drippy, runny
watercolor technique and saran wrap on the wings.
Not happy with this.
So Plan B goes into action.
Be sure and come back for Day 15
which I will post later tonight (I hope).

Day 12 - 30 in 30 Days - Birch Path

Birch Path

8"X10" watercolor on Arches paper

I have done this several times, several ways
1 monochromatic - only blue,
then another using only yellow and blue,
This one - red, yellow and blue. Very limited palette.
I even have an instruction DVD (2 in the set) for all three
scenes in my Etsy shop.
This was the watercolor class for today. I had
my students do their on pathway and trees.
Here is their work. I think they did a good job!
This is Amy's
This is Dorothy's

Since most of what I am doing for this challenge is small
and sort of quick, I am also thinking about doing
30 Painting in 30 Days for $30.00 each.
So, if you have ever wanted to own a Nathalie original
this will be your chance.
I will attach Paypal buttons in the next day or two
*There will be a couple of exceptions*
